Japan eSIM: How to Set Up APN (vmobile.jp)

Japan eSIMs Require a Manual APN

Unlike most destinations, Japan eSIMs need you to manually enter an APN (Access Point Name) before your data will work. This takes about 30 seconds and only needs to be done once.

Your APN value: vmobile.jp

How to Set the APN on iPhone

1. Open Settings
2. Tap Cellular (or Mobile Data in some regions)
3. Tap the name of your eSIM line in the list
4. Tap Cellular Data Network
5. In the APN field at the top, type vmobile.jp
6. Leave all other fields blank
7. Tap back to save — no confirmation button needed

After entering the APN, make sure Data Roaming is turned on for the eSIM line, then restart your phone.

How to Set the APN on Android (Pixel, Samsung, others)

Google Pixel / Stock Android

1. Open Settings
2. Tap Network & Internet
3. Tap SIMs and select your eSIM
4. Tap Access Point Names
5. Tap the + icon to add a new APN
6. Set Name to Only eSIM Japan (or anything you like)
7. Set APN to vmobile.jp
8. Tap the three-dot menu and select Save
9. Select the new APN from the list to make it active

Samsung Galaxy

1. Open Settings
2. Tap Connections
3. Tap Mobile networks
4. Make sure your eSIM line is selected at the top
5. Tap Access Point Names
6. Tap Add (or the + icon)
7. Set Name to Only eSIM Japan
8. Set APN to vmobile.jp
9. Tap Save
10. Select the new APN to activate it

After saving, enable Data Roaming for the eSIM line and restart your phone.

Troubleshooting

If your data still isn't working after setting the APN:

• Check data roaming. This is the most common missed step. It must be enabled on the eSIM line specifically.
• Verify the correct line. Make sure you set the APN on your eSIM, not your physical SIM.
• Restart your phone. A reboot helps the phone register the new APN with the network.
• Double-check the value. The APN must be exactly vmobile.jp — no spaces, no capital letters.
