How to Reset Network Settings and Resolve Dual SIM Conflicts
When to Use This Guide
Resetting network settings is the "when nothing else works" fix. It wipes your phone's network configuration back to factory defaults, which can clear out corrupted settings, stuck connections, and conflicts that simpler fixes won't touch.
Try this guide if:
- Your eSIM won't connect even after enabling Data Roaming and restarting your phone
- You're getting persistent "No Service" on the eSIM line
- Your physical SIM and eSIM seem to be interfering with each other
- You've tried the troubleshooting steps in our other guides and nothing has worked
Don't start here. This is a last resort, not a first step. If you haven't already tried the basics (enabling the eSIM line, turning on Data Roaming, toggling Airplane Mode, restarting), start with our "No Service" troubleshooting guide first.
What Reset Network Settings Actually Does
Before you tap that button, here's exactly what gets erased and what doesn't:
Gets erased:
- All saved WiFi networks and passwords
- Bluetooth device pairings
- VPN configurations
- Cellular settings and preferences (like preferred network type and APN overrides)
- Custom DNS settings
Does NOT get erased:
- Your eSIM profiles (they stay installed)
- Apps, photos, messages, or any personal data
- Your physical SIM configuration
- Your phone number or Apple ID / Google account
The main inconvenience is re-entering WiFi passwords. If you know your home and work WiFi passwords, you'll be back to normal in a couple of minutes.

- Tap Reset
- Tap Reset network settings
- Tap Reset settings
- Confirm with your PIN or password
After the restart, reconnect to WiFi and check your eSIM status under Settings > Connections > SIM manager.
After the Reset
Once your phone restarts:
- Reconnect to WiFi — you'll need to re-enter your password
- Check that your eSIM is still listed in your cellular/SIM settings
- Enable Data Roaming on the eSIM line — this setting resets to "off" by default
- Set the eSIM as your default data line
If your eSIM connects, you're all set. If not, check for dual SIM conflicts below.
Fixing Dual SIM Conflicts
Sometimes the issue isn't your eSIM alone — it's a conflict between your physical SIM and eSIM fighting over the data connection.
How to Diagnose a Dual SIM Conflict
-
Temporarily disable your physical SIM:
- iPhone: Settings > Cellular > tap your physical SIM line > toggle off Turn On This Line
- Android: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > tap your physical SIM > toggle it off
- Samsung: Settings > Connections > SIM manager > tap your physical SIM > toggle it off
-
Test your eSIM alone. Toggle Airplane Mode on and off, then wait a minute. Does the eSIM connect?
-
If the eSIM works on its own, you have a dual SIM conflict. Follow the fix below.
How to Fix the Conflict
- Re-enable your physical SIM
- Set your default data line to the eSIM:
- iPhone: Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data > select your eSIM
- Android: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > tap your eSIM > toggle on "Mobile data"
- Samsung: Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Mobile data > select your eSIM
- Disable data on the physical SIM line. You want internet traffic going through the eSIM only, not the physical SIM.
- Keep your physical SIM enabled for calls and texts if you need it for your home number — just make sure it's not set as the data line.
This lets both SIMs coexist: your physical SIM handles calls and texts, while your eSIM handles all data at local rates.
